Your Mission: Leadership in Base Maintenance Excellence

As the Hangar Manager for Base Maintenance, you will hold ultimate responsibility for the performance, safety, and efficiency of the hangar facility. You will be the central figure ensuring that all maintenance activities are delivered on time, within budget, and in full compliance with all regulatory requirements. Your leadership will directly impact the operational capability of the client’s fleet.

Key Responsibilities:

Your role will be multifaceted, spanning technical, operational, and people management domains. Key duties include:

  • Operational Leadership & Strategy: Providing direct oversight and management of all base maintenance operations within the hangar. You will develop and implement strategic plans to optimize workflow, improve turnaround times, and enhance overall hangar capacity and efficiency.

  • Resource & Workforce Management: Efficiently managing all hangar resources, including manpower, equipment, and floor space. This includes workforce planning, shift scheduling, and ensuring the right skills are available for each project. You will be responsible for mentoring, developing, and leading a large team of technicians, supervisors, and support staff.

  • Financial & Budgetary Control: Holding accountability for the hangar’s financial performance. You will develop and manage the operational budget, control costs, and identify opportunities for financial improvement, directly influencing profitability.

  • Regulatory & Safety Compliance: Serving as the primary point of accountability for ensuring all hangar activities comply with the national aviation authority (e.g., EASA, FAA, UK CAA) regulations and company safety management systems (SMS). You will foster a proactive safety culture where all personnel are empowered and expected to prioritize safety.

  • Client & Stakeholder Relations: Acting as the senior point of contact for clients, ensuring their requirements are met and their expectations are exceeded. You will also maintain strong working relationships with regulatory bodies, suppliers, and internal senior management.

  • Quality Assurance: Working closely with the Quality department to ensure all maintenance is performed to the highest standard and that any audit findings are addressed promptly and effectively.

The Ideal Candidate Profile

We are looking for an accomplished aviation maintenance professional who has successfully transitioned from a technical expert to a strategic operational leader. The ideal candidate is a decisive, results-driven manager with a proven track record in a base maintenance environment.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in aviation maintenance, with a significant portion of that within a base or heavy maintenance environment.

  • A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in a senior leadership or management role within an MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) or airline maintenance organization.

  • In-depth knowledge of base maintenance processes, from C-check through to D-check levels.

  • A comprehensive understanding of EASA Part 145 / FAA Part 145 regulations and the requirements of a Safety Management System (SMS).

  • Strong financial acumen, with experience in budget management, cost control, and P&L responsibility.

  • Exceptional personnel management skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop large, multidisciplinary teams.

  • Hold, or have held, a relevant aircraft maintenance license (EASA Part 66 or equivalent) is highly advantageous.

What Will Make You Stand Out?

Beyond the technical and managerial experience, we highly value leaders who embody the following attributes:

  • Strategic Vision: The ability to see the bigger picture, plan for long-term growth, and implement processes that create sustained operational excellence.

  • Decisive Under Pressure: The capacity to make clear, informed decisions quickly, especially during AOG situations or when facing complex technical and logistical challenges.

  • Exceptional Communication: The skill to communicate effectively with everyone from the shop floor technician to the executive board, translating strategic goals into actionable tasks.

  • A Developer of Talent: A genuine passion for mentoring and developing team members, building a strong succession plan, and creating a positive and productive work culture.
