Who We Are: Architects of the Digital Backbone

At the Rack, we specialize in creating and managing the foundational technology layer that enables digital transformation for businesses worldwide. We are not a consumer-facing brand but the essential partner for companies requiring hyperscale, reliability, and cutting-edge performance. Our expertise is organized around several interconnected pillars:

  • Cloud & Hyperscale Infrastructure: Designing and operating massive-scale data center environments, cloud platforms, and distributed computing resources.

  • Networking & Connectivity: Building ultra-low-latency, high-throughput global networks, content delivery systems, and interconnection fabrics.

  • Hardware Systems Engineering: Developing custom server architectures, storage solutions, and specialized silicon to optimize for performance, power efficiency, and total cost of ownership.

  • Infrastructure Software: Creating the orchestration, management, and automation software that brings our global physical infrastructure to life as a cohesive, programmable platform.

  • Technical Operations & Support: Ensuring 24/7/365 reliability, security, and performance through world-class site operations, monitoring, and customer support.

We operate on a truly global scale, with points of presence and teams strategically located to serve an international clientele, fostering a culture of technical depth, operational rigor, and relentless innovation.

The Opportunity: Engineer the Unseen Engine

We are recruiting for a spectrum of roles to support rapid growth and the launch of next-generation infrastructure services. This is a call for systems engineers, network architects, software developers, and operations specialists ready to build what’s next. Successful candidates will join highly technical teams with opportunities to impact our global platform. Current focus areas for hiring include:

  • Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) & Production Operations: Ensuring the extreme reliability and performance of our global platform through automation, monitoring, and incident response. Building software to manage infrastructure.

  • Hardware & Data Center Engineering: Roles in mechanical/electrical design for data centers, hardware systems validation, supply chain logistics, and firmware development for custom hardware.

  • Network Engineering: Designing, deploying, and scaling our global backbone, edge networks, and data center fabrics. Deep work with routing protocols, optical transport, and network automation.

  • Software Development, Infrastructure: Developing the core control plane software, APIs, and automation tools that provision, manage, and secure our infrastructure resources.

  • Customer Solutions Architecture: Working directly with enterprise and developer customers to architect solutions using the Rack’s infrastructure, translating complex requirements into technical reality.

  • Security Engineering: Building and maintaining security controls at every layer of the stack—physical, network, host, and application—to protect customer data and platform integrity.

Key Responsibilities: Building at Scale

Regardless of your specific discipline, every role at the Rack is connected to our mission of delivering unwavering infrastructure excellence.

  • Design for Scale and Resilience: Architect systems and software with a fundamental understanding of global scale, fault tolerance, and graceful degradation.

  • Automate Relentlessly: Eliminate manual toil through code. Build the tools and systems that allow our infrastructure to manage itself.

  • Own the Full Stack & Lifecycle: Take holistic ownership from concept and design through implementation, deployment, operation, and iterative improvement. You build it, you own it.

  • Solve Deep Technical Challenges: Diagnose and resolve complex, cross-system issues that require a deep understanding of interactions between hardware, network, and software layers.

  • Uphold Operational Excellence: Maintain the highest standards of system availability, performance, and security, with data-driven decision-making and clear operational metrics.

  • Collaborate Globally: Work effectively across time zones with engineering teams, field operations, and customer-facing organizations to deliver a seamless platform experience.

Candidate Profile: The Talent We Seek

We seek pragmatic, deeply technical individuals who are motivated by building systems that are invisible until they are not. We value proven ability, a systems mindset, and a passion for foundational technology.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.

  • Proven experience in one or more of our core domains: large-scale distributed systems, networking, data center operations, hardware development, or infrastructure software.

  • Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages relevant to systems work (e.g., Go, Python, C, C++, Rust, Java).

  • A systematic approach to problem-solving and debugging in complex, multi-variable environments.

  • Professional proficiency in English is required for global collaboration.

  • An inherent sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.

Preferred Skills & Attributes:

  • Hands-on Experience with Scale: Demonstrable experience building, operating, or troubleshooting large-scale, critical production systems.

  • Deep Domain Knowledge: Expertise in areas like network protocols (BGP, EVPN, VxLAN), Linux kernel internals, distributed storage systems, performance analysis, or data center facility engineering.

  • Mastery of Modern Tooling: Fluency with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible), observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana), CI/CD pipelines, and container orchestration (Kubernetes).

  • Security-First Mindset: Experience implementing security best practices in infrastructure design and operations.

  • Clear Communication: The ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.
