About Anthropic and the Role

Anthropic is an AI safety and research company that builds reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. Our mission is to ensure that artificial intelligence benefits humanity. As frontier AI systems become increasingly powerful and globally significant, shaping the international policy landscape is critical to our mission.

We are hiring an International Policy Analyst to join our Policy team. You will be responsible for analyzing, interpreting, and engaging with the rapidly evolving global policy environment for artificial intelligence. Your work will directly inform Anthropic’s strategic positions, partnerships, and communications on the world stage. You will translate complex technical concepts into clear policy frameworks and help guide the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies across different jurisdictions and cultures.

This is a hybrid role, offering the flexibility of remote work with the expectation of periodic collaboration in our primary hubs and significant travel for international engagements. Critically, this position is open to international applicants, and Anthropic will sponsor visas for the right candidate.

Total Compensation: This role offers a competitive monthly salary in the range of USD $20,000 – $25,000, which corresponds to an annual base salary range of $240,000 – $300,000. Compensation is determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and geographic location, and is complemented by a comprehensive benefits and equity package.

Core Responsibilities

As an International Policy Analyst at Anthropic, you will serve as a key conduit between our technical research and the global policy ecosystem. Your core duties will be multifaceted and impactful:

  • Global Landscape Analysis: Continuously monitor, research, and analyze AI policy developments from key international bodies (e.g., UN, OECD, G7/G20, Council of Europe), specific national governments, and regional blocs (e.g., EU, ASEAN). Provide timely, insightful briefings to internal leadership.

  • Policy Research & Development: Draft in-depth reports, white papers, and comment submissions on critical topics such as AI safety standards, export controls, international governance models, liability frameworks, and ethical guidelines. Your analysis will be grounded in a deep understanding of both policy mechanisms and AI capabilities.

  • Strategic Engagement Support: Prepare briefing materials, talking points, and strategic advice for Anthropic’s leadership and subject matter experts for engagements with policymakers, diplomats, civil society organizations, and industry consortiums abroad.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work seamlessly with Anthropic’s technical research, safety, legal, and communications teams to ensure policy positions are technically accurate, operationally feasible, and aligned with our core company values and safety commitments.

  • Partnership Cultivation: Help identify and build relationships with key international stakeholders who share a commitment to the safe and beneficial development of AI. Represent Anthropic at conferences, workshops, and diplomatic meetings.

Who You Are: Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for a proactive, intellectually rigorous, and globally-minded professional who can navigate complex technical and political landscapes.

Required Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Public Policy, International Relations, Law, Political Science, or a closely related field. A strong technical undergraduate background or demonstrated ability to grasp complex technical concepts is a significant advantage.

  • A minimum of 5+ years of direct experience in international policy analysis, development, or diplomacy. Experience must be within a relevant context such as:

    • A tech-focused policy role within a government or multilateral institution.

    • A policy team at a leading technology company.

    • A renowned think tank or research institute focused on technology governance.

  • Proven expertise in AI, digital, or emerging technology policy. You must have a published track record (reports, articles, official submissions) that demonstrates deep knowledge of the current debates, key institutions, and proposed regulatory frameworks.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. You can distill complex ideas into clear, persuasive, and audience-appropriate prose for both high-level summaries and detailed technical documents.

  • International fluency. You have professional experience working across cultures and time zones. Proficiency in at least one language other than English (e.g., French, German, Mandarin, Japanese) is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience working within or closely with a major AI research organization or frontier tech company.

  • An established network of contacts within international AI policy circles.

  • Hands-on experience with legislative or treaty-drafting processes.

  • A solid conceptual understanding of machine learning fundamentals and AI safety research.

The Team and Impact

You will join Anthropic’s growing Public Policy team, which sits at the intersection of our groundbreaking technical work and the societal implications of AI. Our team’s mandate is to proactively shape a policy environment that enables responsible innovation while mitigating risks.

Your analysis will directly influence:

  • Corporate Strategy: Informing where and how Anthropic operates and collaborates globally.

  • Technical Research Direction: Providing the policy context that helps prioritize certain safety and research investments.

  • Global Norms: Contributing to the development of sensible, implementable international standards and governance for advanced AI.

We operate with a high degree of autonomy, intellectual honesty, and a shared commitment to our mission. The work is fast-paced, interdisciplinary, and has a tangible impact on one of the most important technologies of our time.

Work Model & Culture:

  • Hybrid Flexibility: This role operates on a hybrid model, combining focused remote work with essential in-person collaboration in our San Francisco or Washington, D.C. hubs. International travel for policy events is a core component.
