Core Mission of the Role

As an Automation Systems Specialist at ATS, you will be integral to the entire lifecycle of custom automation solutions. You will transition theoretical designs into tangible, high-performance systems that meet our clients’ critical production challenges. This role sits at the intersection of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering, requiring a holistic approach to problem-solving and a passion for seeing projects through from concept to commissioning.

Key Responsibilities & Daily Work

Your day-to-day contributions will be diverse and impactful. Key responsibilities include:

  • System Integration & Assembly: Lead and participate in the hands-on assembly, integration, and debug of sophisticated automated systems, including robotics, precision actuators, conveyance systems, and vision inspection stations.

  • Technical Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues using schematics, ladder logic, and a systematic problem-solving approach.

  • Software Implementation: Work with control system software (e.g., Rockwell Automation, Siemens) to configure PLCs, HMIs, and servo drives. Support or develop machine control programs and operator interfaces.

  • Quality Assurance & Testing: Conduct rigorous functional testing (FAT) to ensure systems meet all design specifications, performance metrics, and safety standards before shipment.

  • Client Collaboration & Support: Participate in system installation and commissioning at client sites internationally. Provide expert training and post-launch support, building strong client relationships.

  • Documentation: Create and maintain critical documentation, including test protocols, as-built drawings, and user manuals.

Who We Are Looking For: Ideal Candidate Profile

We are seeking proactive, technically adept individuals who thrive in a team-oriented, project-driven environment. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of the following qualifications and attributes:

Essential Qualifications:

  • A degree, diploma, or equivalent certification in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, or a closely related field.

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in building, debugging, and commissioning industrial automation equipment.

  • Practical proficiency with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell or Siemens platforms are highly desirable).

  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and pneumatics diagrams.

  • Proven experience with industrial robotics (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA) and machine safety standards (e.g., ISO 13849).

  • Fluency in English; additional language skills relevant to the job location are a strong asset.

  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally for client installations (typically 25-50%, depending on project cycles).

Key Behavioral Competencies:

  • Analytical Problem-Solver: You enjoy delving into complex technical challenges and developing effective, sustainable solutions.

  • Detail-Oriented Performer: You take pride in precision and understand that the finest details determine system reliability.

  • Agile Team Player: You collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams of designers, engineers, and project managers.

  • Effective Communicator: You can explain technical concepts clearly to both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Resilient and Adaptable: You manage project timelines and pressures effectively and are adaptable to evolving client needs.
