Ensure Aviation Excellence from the Ground Up

A consistent and critical demand exists for detail-oriented, reliable, and safety-focused individuals to support the aviation industry’s stringent cleanliness and presentation standards. We are recruiting for Aircraft Cleaner positions at major airports, maintenance facilities, and for airline service providers across the United States. These roles are designed for individuals who take pride in meticulous work, can follow strict protocols, and perform efficiently in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment. This is an entry point into the dynamic aviation sector, offering structured training, shift-based work, and the potential for career advancement into other airport or airline operations. For authorized non-citizens, these positions may offer employment opportunities, though eligibility to work in the U.S. is a mandatory prerequisite for all applicants.

This work is a vital component of airline operations, passenger safety, and customer satisfaction. Aircraft cleaners are responsible for the deep cleaning and sanitization of aircraft interiors between flights, ensuring a safe, hygienic, and pleasant environment for passengers and crew, directly contributing to the public health and professional image of the aviation industry.

Detailed Position Overview

Core Responsibilities & Cleaning Protocols

As an Aircraft Cleaner in the U.S., you will be part of a dedicated ground services team working on a rotating schedule to turn around aircraft quickly and thoroughly. Your primary duties will be governed by airline-specific and FAA-aware guidelines:

  • Post-Flight Cabin Cleaning: Performing a rapid yet thorough clean of the aircraft cabin between flights (“turn cleaning”). This includes picking up litter, wiping down tray tables, seat belts, and armrests, straightening seatback pockets, and vacuuming carpets and seats.

  • Deep Cleaning & Sanitization: Conducting scheduled, more intensive cleaning sessions (“overnight cleans” or “layover cleans”) which involve deep vacuuming, shampooing carpets, cleaning lavatories with specialized disinfectants, wiping down overhead bins, windows, and all hard surfaces.

  • Lavatory Servicing & Restocking: Completely sanitizing aircraft lavatories, restocking toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and other amenities. Handling and disposing of waste in accordance with health and safety regulations.

  • Galley & Catering Area Cleaning: Cleaning galley areas, ovens, and compartments. Removing catering waste and ensuring galleys are clean and ready for the next catering load.

  • Safety & Security Compliance: Adhering to strict airport security protocols, including remaining aware of sterile area boundaries and proper badge display. Following all safety procedures for working around aircraft, including hearing protection near active ramps and awareness of moving vehicles and equipment.

  • Inventory & Equipment Care: Managing cleaning supply inventory on your cart or truck. Properly using, maintaining, and storing cleaning equipment such as industrial vacuums, carpet cleaners, and pressure washers for cabin exteriors.

  • Team Coordination: Working effectively as part of a crew, often under time pressure, to ensure the aircraft is “cleared” for boarding on schedule. Communicating any maintenance issues or damage found inside the cabin to supervisors.

Essential Qualifications & Candidate Profile

We seek individuals who are responsible, efficient, and capable of working in a highly regulated environment. The ideal candidate possesses:

  • Legal Authorization to Work in the USA: This is an absolute, non-negotiable requirement. Employers will verify eligibility via Form I-9. This includes U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and individuals with valid work authorization (e.g., EAD card).

  • Background & Security Clearance: The ability to pass a 10-year FAA-mandated background check and a fingerprint-based criminal history records check (CHRC) is mandatory to obtain an airport Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge. A clean driving record may also be required for operating vehicles on the ramp.

  • Skills & Physical Attributes:

    • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for cleanliness and order.

    • Physical Stamina & Mobility: The role requires standing, walking, kneeling, bending, and lifting (typically up to 50 lbs.) for entire shifts. You must be able to work in confined spaces (aircraft cabins, lavatories) and climb stairs to enter aircraft.

    • Time Management & Efficiency: Ability to work quickly and thoroughly within tight time constraints.

    • Reliability & Punctuality: Essential for shift work in a time-sensitive industry.

  • Core Competencies:

    • Safety Consciousness: A paramount concern for personal safety and the security of the aircraft and airport operations.

    • Teamwork & Communication: Ability to follow instructions and work cooperatively in a crew.

    • Integrity & Trustworthiness: Given access to secure areas and passenger aircraft.

    • Adaptability & Composure: Ability to work flexible shifts (nights, weekends, holidays) and perform under pressure during irregular operations (e.g., flight delays).

Why Pursue an Aircraft Cleaning Career in the USA?

The U.S. aviation industry is one of the largest and most robust in the world, offering stability, benefits, and a unique work environment.

The U.S. Aviation Industry Advantage

  • Essential Industry Job Security: Air travel is a critical infrastructure. Aircraft cleaners are essential personnel, providing stable employment even during variable economic cycles.

  • Gateway to Aviation Careers: This role is a common entry point into the airline industry. It provides valuable experience and internal opportunities to advance into other areas such as ramp agent, cabin service agent, customer service, or operations.

  • Structured Pay & Union Representation: Many aircraft cleaning positions are unionized (e.g., with the Transport Workers Union – TWU, or International Association of Machinists – IAM), offering:

    • Clear, negotiated wage scales with regular step increases. Hourly wages typically range from $15 to $22 per hour, depending on the airline, location, and seniority.

    • Shift differential pay for evenings, nights, and weekends.

    • Comprehensive benefits packages including health insurance, retirement plans, and often flight privileges (discounted or standby air travel) for you and your family after a qualifying period.

  • Dynamic Work Environment: No two days are exactly the same, working with different aircraft types and crews in the fast-paced airport environment.

Employment Authorization & Onboarding Process

For all candidates, the hiring process is strict due to federal security regulations.

  1. Pre-Employment Screening: Successful applicants must pass the FAA background check and drug screening. A negative test for controlled substances is mandatory.

  2. SIDA Badging Process: The employer will sponsor you for an airport security badge, which involves fingerprinting, a background investigation, and security training.

  3. Airline-Specific Training: You will undergo training on specific cleaning procedures, chemical handling (GHS), safety protocols (including ramp safety), and security awareness.

  4. Probationary Period: Most positions include a 60- to 90-day probationary period where performance and attendance are closely monitored.

Application Process & Requirements

Step-by-Step Hiring Journey

  1. Initial Application: Apply online through the airline or service provider’s career website. Ensure your application accurately reflects your eligibility to work in the U.S.

  2. Assessment & Virtual Interview: Many companies use a brief virtual job preview or assessment to gauge suitability for the role’s demands.

  3. In-Person/Video Interview: An interview focusing on reliability, safety awareness, ability to follow procedures, and willingness to work required shifts.

  4. Conditional Job Offer: An offer contingent on successfully passing the background check, drug test, and badging process.

  5. Onboarding & Training: Completion of all clearances followed by paid training before beginning active duty on the ramp.

Mandatory Documentation for Application

To be considered, you must be prepared to provide:

  • A simple, clear Resume.

  • Documentation for the Form I-9 process (e.g., U.S. Passport, or a Driver’s License + Social Security Card, or Permanent Resident Card).

  • Your Social Security Number.

  • Information for the background check, including addresses for the past 10 years.
