Company: Tim Hortons (Franchise Location)
Position: Cashier / Team Member
Location: Various locations across Canada (Specific city/town to be determined based on applicant location and franchise needs)

Detailed Position Overview

Core Responsibilities & Front Counter Operations

As a Cashier at Tim Hortons, you will be an integral part of the service team, responsible for managing the point-of-sale system and guest interactions during your shift.

  • Order Taking & Accuracy: Greeting guests warmly, answering menu questions, and entering orders accurately and efficiently into the Tim Hortons point-of-sale (POS) system. Upselling promotional items or suggesting add-ons (e.g., “Would you like a Timbit with that?”) in a friendly manner.

  • Payment Processing & Cash Handling: Accepting cash, debit, credit, and gift card payments. Making correct change, processing tap/chip transactions, and handling mobile orders. Balancing your cash register at the beginning and end of your shift with a high degree of accuracy and integrity.

  • Beverage & Food Assembly: Working in tandem with the food preparation team. This includes pouring coffee and other hot/cold beverages, retrieving baked goods from the display case, assembling simple food items (bagels, sandwiches), and ensuring orders are complete, correct, and presented neatly before handing them to the guest.

  • Drive-Thru Operations (if applicable): Operating the drive-thru headset, taking orders clearly and efficiently, managing the flow of cars, and processing payments at the window while maintaining speed and accuracy standards.

  • Customer Service & Issue Resolution: Providing consistently friendly and professional service. Handling guest inquiries, complaints, or special requests politely and promptly, escalating issues to a shift supervisor when necessary.

  • Cleanliness & Station Maintenance: Maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked front counter, cash area, and beverage station. This includes wiping surfaces, restocking cups/lids/napkins, and ensuring condiment stations are clean and full.

  • Teamwork & Communication: Communicating clearly with kitchen staff about order priorities and special requests. Working collaboratively with all team members to ensure smooth shift operations, especially during peak morning and lunch rushes.

Essential Qualifications & Candidate Profile

We seek reliable, positive, and energetic individuals who are ready to learn and contribute to a team. The ideal candidate possesses:

  • Legal Right to Work in Canada: Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid open work permit (e.g., Post-Graduation Work Permit, Spousal Open Work Permit). Tim Hortons franchises typically do not sponsor closed work permits (LMIA) for entry-level cashier positions.

  • Availability: Must be available to work a variety of shifts, including early mornings (often starting at 5:00 or 6:00 AM), weekends, evenings, and holidays. Flexibility is highly valued.

  • Skills & Attributes:

    • Strong Customer Service Orientation: A naturally friendly and patient demeanor.

    • Basic Math & Computer Skills: Comfort with handling cash and using a touch-screen register.

    • Ability to Multitask & Work Under Pressure: Stays calm and efficient during busy periods.

    • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light lifting (e.g., cases of cups, milk).

    • Reliability & Punctuality: Consistent attendance is critical in a team environment.

  • Language Skills: Proficiency in English (or French in Quebec) is required to communicate effectively with team members and guests. Additional language skills are an asset in multicultural communities.
