Deliver a Career in Europe’s Strategic Logistics Hub

A critical and ongoing demand exists for qualified, safety-conscious, and reliable professional drivers to support Luxembourg’s essential logistics, construction, and industrial sectors. We are recruiting for Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Drivers / Professional Truck Drivers for various operations across the Grand Duchy. This position is designed for individuals with the proper licensing, a clean driving record, and the professionalism to represent a transport company on the road. For eligible non-EU candidates, successful placement includes comprehensive support for obtaining a Luxembourg work and residence permit, facilitating legal employment in one of Europe’s most prosperous and strategically located countries.

This role is more than driving; it is a vital link in Luxembourg’s economy, ensuring the timely delivery of goods for its major industries, from steel and manufacturing to retail and European distribution centers. It offers stability, competitive compensation, and the opportunity to operate modern vehicles within a highly regulated and professional environment.

Detailed Position Overview

Core Responsibilities & On-the-Road Tasks

As a Professional Truck Driver in Luxembourg, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transport of goods, adhering to strict EU and national regulations. Your primary duties will include:

  • Pre- and Post-Trip Vehicle Inspections: Conducting thorough daily checks (controle technique journalier) of the truck and trailer, documenting the vehicle’s condition, fuel, oil, tires, lights, and load security before and after each journey.

  • Safe Loading & Unloading Operations: Collaborating with warehouse staff to ensure cargo is loaded correctly, evenly distributed, and secured in compliance with safety standards. May involve operating tail lifts, manual unloading, or overseeing crane loading for specialized freight.

  • Route Planning & Adherence: Following planned delivery routes using satellite navigation (tachograph-integrated) while adapting to real-time traffic, weather, and road conditions. Maintaining accurate knowledge of local and international routes.

  • Regulatory Compliance & Documentation: Strictly adhering to EU driving hours and rest period regulations (règlementation sociale européenne) using the digital tachograph. Accurately completing all transport documents (CMR consignment notes, delivery slips, customs paperwork for international trips).

  • Vehicle Care & Basic Maintenance: Performing basic custodial care of the assigned vehicle, reporting any mechanical defects immediately, and ensuring the truck is kept clean and presentable.

  • Professional Customer Interaction: Representing the transport company professionally at delivery points, interacting courteously with clients, and obtaining necessary signatures and paperwork.

Essential Qualifications & Candidate Profile

We are searching for professional drivers who prioritize safety and reliability above all. The ideal candidate must meet the following non-negotiable criteria:

  • Valid Driving Licenses & Certifications:

    • valid EU Category C (C1, C, C+E) driving licence appropriate for the vehicle weight.

    • A valid Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) for road haulage (the capacité professionnelle or code 95 on the licence).

    • A valid driver qualification card (DQC).

    • For non-EU licence holders, the ability to exchange or convert the licence to a Luxembourg/EU equivalent is a prerequisite. This process is complex and requires early initiation.

  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 2 years of professional driving experience with vehicles over 3.5 tons is typically required. Experience with specific cargo types (e.g., ADR dangerous goods, perishable goods, bulk materials) is a strong asset.

  • Skills & Attributes:

    • Impeccable Driving Record: A clean driver’s abstract with no major traffic violations (DUI, reckless driving) is mandatory.

    • Physical Fitness: Ability to handle the physical demands of loading/unloading, coupling/uncoupling trailers, and daily vehicle checks.

    • Navigation & Tech Skills: Proficiency with modern truck sat-nav systems, digital tachographs, and electronic consignment management.

    • Time Management & Independence: Excellent organizational skills to manage delivery schedules, paperwork, and rest periods effectively while working unsupervised for long periods.

  • Core Competencies:

    • Absolute Safety Focus: A deep-rooted culture of safety for yourself, other road users, your vehicle, and the cargo.

    • Reliability & Punctuality: The logistics chain depends on timely deliveries. Consistency and dependability are paramount.

    • Discretion & Integrity: Often handling high-value goods, honesty and trustworthiness are essential traits.

    • Linguistic Skills: Functional proficiency in French or German is highly advantageous for reading road signs, interacting with clients and authorities, and understanding documentation. English is commonly used in international transport but may not be sufficient for all domestic operations.

Why Pursue a Truck Driving Career in Luxembourg?

Luxembourg’s position as a logistics crossroads in Europe, combined with its strong economy, creates an exceptional environment for professional drivers.

The Luxembourg Transport Sector Advantage

  • Strategic Location & High Demand: Situated at the heart of the EU, Luxembourg is a major hub for cross-border freight, ensuring consistent high demand for drivers on both domestic and international routes (to neighboring France, Germany, and Belgium).

  • Modern Fleet & Infrastructure: Drive well-maintained, modern trucks equipped with the latest technology and safety features on some of Europe’s best-maintained road networks.

  • Economic Stability & Strong Unions: Benefit from the wage stability and worker protections afforded by Luxembourg’s strong economy and active transport sector unions, which negotiate favorable collective agreements.

  • Competitive Remuneration: Salaries for professional drivers in Luxembourg are among the highest in Europe. Gross annual salaries typically range from €45,000 to €60,000+, depending on experience, type of licence (C vs. C+E), cargo specialization (e.g., ADR), and whether routes are domestic or international. Additional benefits often include:

    • Night and Weekend Shift Premiums

    • Paid Overtime

    • Company Pension Scheme

Work & Residence Permit Sponsorship for Non-EU Drivers

The process for third-country nationals is structured but requires meeting stringent criteria.

  1. Job Offer & Labour Market Test: An employer must obtain authorization to hire a non-EU driver by proving the vacancy cannot be filled by an EU citizen.

  2. Temporary Authorization to Stay: The employer applies for this on your behalf, which, once granted, allows you to apply for a Long-Stay Visa (Type D) at the Luxembourg embassy.

  3. Residence Permit Issuance: Upon arrival in Luxembourg, you must undergo a medical check and register with the local commune to receive your final Temporary Residence Permit for Salaried Workers.

  4. Licence Conversion: This is a parallel and critical process. You must initiate the conversion of your foreign truck licence to a Luxembourgish one immediately, which may require a practical test.

Application Process & Requirements

Step-by-Step Hiring Journey

  1. Initial Application & Licence Verification: Submit your CV, a copy of your driving licence, CPC, and DQC. This documentation will be scrutinized first.

  2. Driver History Check: Employers will conduct a formal check of your driving record.

  3. Interview & Assessment: A practical interview, often including a review of tachograph knowledge, safety procedures, and route planning. A practical driving assessment in a truck is highly likely.

  4. Formal Job Offer & Permit Initiation: A contract is offered. For non-EU candidates, the employer begins the work authorization process with the Luxembourg Immigration Directorate.

  5. Onboarding & Training: Completion of company-specific induction, safety training, and familiarization with fleet technology and procedures.
