Your Mission: The Core Objective
To serve as the primary geophysical technical lead for all onshore 2D and 3D seismic data acquisition programs. You will be the crucial bridge between the subsurface interpretation team’s geological objectives and the field crew’s operational execution. Your core mission is to guarantee that the seismic data acquired is of optimal quality, fulfills pre-defined geophysical and geological requirements, and is delivered efficiently to support exploration and appraisal drilling decisions.
A Detailed Look at Your Key Responsibilities
You will own the geophysical outcome of the seismic acquisition project. Your day-to-day impact will be felt across the following domains:
1. Pre-Acquisition Planning & Design
-
Collaborate with the interpretation team to translate geological targets (prospects, leads) into quantifiable seismic acquisition parameters.
-
Design and model seismic survey geometries (shot/receiver layouts) using specialized software (e.g., OMNI, Vista) to optimize fold, offset, azimuth, and binning for the target depth.
-
Lead technical evaluations of contractor proposals, focusing on source types (vibrator, dynamic), receiver technologies, and recording systems.
-
Develop and document comprehensive geophysical specifications and Quality Control (QC) plans for the selected contractor.
2. Onsite Operational Supervision & QC
-
Reside at the field operations site for the duration of the seismic acquisition, providing real-time geophysical oversight.
-
Implement and manage a rigorous, daily QC process on all acquired data (shot records, headers, geometry, near-surface corrections).
-
Monitor and validate key performance indicators: source effort, receiver coupling, system fidelity, ambient noise levels, and overall data fidelity.
-
Make critical, real-time decisions to adjust acquisition parameters in response to field challenges (cultural obstructions, terrain, weather, noise).
-
Ensure strict adherence to the planned geometry and that all spatial data (shot and receiver coordinates, elevations) is accurately recorded and validated.
3. Data Processing Liaison & Initial Evaluation
-
Work closely with the data processing centre/contractor to ensure a smooth handover of field data and parameters.
-
Review and QC initial processing results (raw stacks, brute stacks, velocity analyses) to verify data quality meets objectives.
-
Provide rapid, preliminary assessments of the data to the exploration team, highlighting areas of good quality and potential concerns.
4. HSE, Compliance & Reporting
-
Champion and enforce the highest Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards on site, in line with company and international best practices.
-
Ensure operations comply with all relevant Libyan regulations and permit conditions.
-
Prepare daily, weekly, and final technical reports detailing acquisition progress, data quality, issues encountered, and actions taken.
-
Manage the geophysical budget for the acquisition program, tracking costs versus plan.
5. Team & Contractor Leadership
-
Act as the company’s technical authority for geophysics with the seismic acquisition contractor.
-
Mentor and guide junior national staff, fostering skills development and knowledge transfer.
-
Foster a culture of technical excellence, safety, and collaboration within the multi-disciplinary field team.
