The Opportunity: Field Application Scientist (FAS)
We are seeking two highly knowledgeable and communicative Field Application Scientists (FAS) to join our Commercial teams in Canada and the United Kingdom. In this critical, customer-facing role, you will be the primary scientific and technical expert supporting our portfolio of cell culture media, reagents, and primary cell products. You will bridge the gap between our innovative products and their successful application in customer laboratories, ensuring researchers achieve their experimental goals. This position is open to candidates of all nationalities who have the right to work in Canada or the UK. If you are a scientist who excels at problem-solving, enjoys teaching, and wants to see your expertise directly accelerate scientific discovery, we encourage you to apply.
Your Core Mission: Scientific Enablement in the Field
The Field Application Scientist is an integral part of our commercial success and customer satisfaction. Your primary objective is to provide deep, pre- and post-sales technical support and application guidance, becoming a trusted advisor to our customers. Your key responsibilities will include:
-
Pre-Sales Technical Consulting: Work closely with the Regional Sales Managers to understand prospective customers’ research applications. Provide detailed product recommendations, experimental design advice, and technical validation to support the sales process and demonstrate the value of STEMCELL solutions.
-
Post-Sales Scientific Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for complex technical inquiries after a sale. Troubleshoot experimental challenges related to cell culture, differentiation, isolation, and assay performance via phone, email, and virtual meetings.
-
On-Site & Virtual Customer Training: Conduct hands-on training sessions, workshops, and product demonstrations at customer sites or virtually. Effectively transfer knowledge on protocols, best practices, and advanced techniques to ensure optimal product implementation.
-
Competitive Intelligence & Market Insight: Gather and relay critical feedback from the field regarding customer needs, technical trends, and competitive landscape to the Product Management and R&D teams to inform future product development.
-
Scientific Content Creation: Contribute to the development of high-quality technical documents, application notes, protocol optimizations, and scientific presentations that add value for our customer base.
-
Conference & Workshop Support: Represent STEMCELL at key scientific conferences, trade shows, and hosted seminars. Present technical data, lead workshops, and engage with the scientific community to build brand credibility.
-
Internal Knowledge Transfer: Train and support the internal Sales, Marketing, and Technical Support teams on new products, complex applications, and common technical challenges.
A Day in the Life of a STEMCELL FAS
Your role is dynamic and varies based on customer needs and regional travel. A typical week might include:
-
Monday: Reviewing the week’s schedule, preparing materials for an on-site training at a major research hospital, and addressing urgent technical support emails from customers over the weekend.
-
Tuesday: Traveling to the customer site to conduct a full-day, hands-on workshop on human T cell culture and activation assays for a research group transitioning to our reagents.
-
Wednesday: Participating virtually in a cross-functional internal meeting with R&D to provide field observations on a recently launched product. In the afternoon, hosting a virtual “office hours” session for a network of academic labs.
-
Thursday: Joining a Regional Sales Manager for a key account visit to a biotech startup, where you will lead the technical discussion on their pluripotent stem cell differentiation workflow and propose optimized solutions.
-
Friday: Capturing visit reports in our CRM system, developing a new troubleshooting guide for a common cell isolation challenge, and planning travel for the following week’s customer engagements.
