Shape the Future of Mobility with a Global Leader
At ALSTOM, we understand that mobility is the lifeblood of human progress. It connects communities, powers economies, and opens up a world of opportunity. We don’t just build trains and rail systems; we craft the very arteries of modern society. Our portfolio ranges from high-speed trains and metros to customised services, signalling, and complete turnkey transport systems. We are committed to building a future that is smarter, greener, and more sustainable.
Today, we are at the forefront of a transportation revolution, and we are seeking a dedicated Systems Engineering Specialist to join our dynamic Signalling team. This is not just another engineering role; it is a chance to contribute to complex, large-scale projects that redefine how cities and countries move. If you are passionate about creating safe, efficient, and cutting-edge rail solutions, your journey starts here.
The Mission: Where Your Expertise Drives Safety and Innovation
As a Systems Engineering Specialist within our Signalling division, you will be a cornerstone of our project execution teams. Signalling is the nervous system of any rail network—a complex, safety-critical domain where precision is non-negotiable. Your primary mission will be to develop, specify, and validate signalling system architectures and requirements, ensuring they meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and reliability.
You will be the technical bridge between customer needs, regulatory standards, and the physical and software components that make up our advanced signalling solutions. Your work will directly impact the safety of millions of passengers and the efficiency of vital freight and transit corridors across the globe.
Key Responsibilities: Your Day-to-Day Impact
In this role, you will be entrusted with a diverse set of responsibilities that are critical to project success. You will be involved in the entire systems engineering lifecycle, from initial concept to final validation.
Core Duties Include:
-
System Architecture & Design:
-
Analyze customer and stakeholder requirements to define optimal system architectures for various signalling projects (e.g., CBTC, ETCS, Interlocking).
-
Develop and manage system specifications, design descriptions, and interface control documents.
-
Allocate system-level requirements to sub-systems and components, ensuring traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
-
-
Requirements Engineering:
-
Elicit, analyze, and formalize system requirements using structured methodologies.
-
Manage the requirements baseline using dedicated tools (e.g., DOORS, Reqtify), ensuring clarity, consistency, and verifiability.
-
Collaborate with software, hardware, and V&V teams to ensure requirements are correctly understood and implemented.
-
-
Validation & Verification (V&V):
-
Define the overall V&V strategy for the signalling system.
-
Develop and review system-level test cases, procedures, and reports to demonstrate that the system meets all specified requirements.
-
Support the execution of integration tests, factory acceptance tests (FAT), and site acceptance tests (SAT).
-
-
Safety & Reliability:
-
Apply rigorous safety standards (e.g., CENELEC EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129) to all aspects of system design.
-
Contribute to safety analyses, including Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) and Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA).
-
Ensure the system design adheres to all safety integrity level (SIL) requirements.
-
-
Stakeholder Collaboration:
-
Act as a key technical point of contact for internal teams and external clients.
-
Produce clear and concise technical documentation for both internal and customer use.
-
Participate in design reviews and technical meetings, presenting findings and recommendations with confidence.
-
The Ideal Candidate: Do You Have What It Takes?
We are looking for a proactive and meticulous engineer who thrives in a challenging, multi-cultural environment. You are a natural problem-solver with a passion for complex systems and an unwavering commitment to quality.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
-
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
-
A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in systems engineering, preferably within the railway signalling, aerospace, automotive, or another safety-critical industry.
-
Demonstrable knowledge of systems engineering principles and lifecycle models (e.g., V-Model).
-
Direct experience with signalling systems such as CBTC, ETCS, or Interlocking is a significant advantage.
-
Familiarity with CENELEC standards (EN 50126, 50128, 50129) and safety management processes.
-
Proficiency in requirements management tools, with IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS experience being highly desirable.
-
Strong analytical skills and the ability to break down complex problems into manageable components.
Essential Soft Skills:
-
Exceptional Communication: You can articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, both in writing and verbally.
-
Meticulous Attention to Detail: You understand that in signalling, every detail matters.
-
Collaborative Spirit: You are a team player who enjoys working with cross-functional and international teams.
-
Results-Oriented: You are driven to meet project milestones and deliver on your commitments.
-
Adaptability: You can navigate ambiguity and adapt to evolving project needs in a fast-paced global organization.
