Organizational Context: A Global Movement for a Just World

Oxfam is a global organization committed to fighting inequality to end poverty and injustice. We work across regions and in more than 80 countries, tackling the root causes of poverty and creating lasting solutions. Our approach involves emergency response, long-term development projects, and grassroots advocacy to create a world where everyone can thrive, not just survive.

We focus on a multitude of interconnected issues, including:

  • Economic Justice: Ensuring fair wages and labor rights.

  • Gender Justice: Fighting for the rights of women and girls.

  • Climate Justice: Supporting communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis.

  • Right to Life and Safety: Providing humanitarian aid in conflicts and disasters.

The Oxfam Internship Program is designed to be a cornerstone of our commitment to building the next generation of humanitarian and development leaders. It is a structured, paid opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain meaningful experience within a premier international non-profit organization, all while contributing to our vital mission.

Core Function and Purpose of the Internship

The Remote Internship at Oxfam is not a clerical role; it is an immersive, professional development experience. The primary purpose is to provide a practical, hands-on understanding of how a large, international NGO operates across various functions.

Interns are integrated into specific teams where their work directly supports Oxfam’s strategic objectives. This program is designed to be a two-way street: you contribute your skills, energy, and fresh perspectives to our work, and in return, you receive mentorship, training, and invaluable experience that will form the foundation of your career in the social impact sector. You will learn how to translate academic theory into real-world change, all from a remote work environment.

Detailed Key Responsibilities and Learning Objectives

While specific tasks will vary by department (e.g., Advocacy, Communications, Programs, Fundraising), all interns can expect to engage in work that is both substantive and educational.

  • Data Management and Reporting: Help with data entry, analysis, and visualization to track program metrics, campaign reach, or donor engagement.

2. Professional Development and Learning

  • Develop a nuanced understanding of the operational structures of an international NGO.

  • Gain practical skills in [e.g., policy analysis, digital campaigning, donor relations, program monitoring & evaluation], depending on the team placement.
