A Day in the Life: Your Key Responsibilities and Tasks
While specific duties vary significantly depending on the host Sector (e.g., Education, Natural Sciences, Culture, Communication & Information) or Field Office, an intern’s responsibilities are both substantive and varied. You will be considered a part of the team, contributing to meaningful work.
Core responsibilities may include:

Research and Analysis: Conducting in-depth research on specific themes relevant to your assigned sector, such as education policy, biodiversity, intangible cultural heritage, or media development. You will synthesize information from various sources to prepare background documents, literature reviews, and analytical reports.

Drafting and Documentation Support: Assisting in the preparation of working documents, concept notes, mission reports, and presentations for both internal and external stakeholders, including for global conferences and expert meetings.

Project and Event Management Support: Providing logistical and substantive support for the organization of meetings, workshops, conferences, and global events. This can include liaising with participants, preparing agendas, and supporting the development of project timelines and deliverables.

Communication and Knowledge Management: Contributing to UNESCO’s public outreach by helping to draft web content, social media posts, newsletters, and other communication materials. You may also be involved in updating internal databases and knowledge management systems.

Required Qualifications & Eligibility:

You must be enrolled in a graduate or postgraduate degree programme (Master’s, PhD, or equivalent) or have recently graduated (within the last 12 months prior to the application deadline).

Proficiency in English or French, the two working languages of UNESCO. Knowledge of both is a significant advantage. Knowledge of Spanish, Russian, Arabic, or Chinese is also an asset.

A background in a field related to UNESCO’s mandate, such as International Relations, Law, Education, Environmental Science, History, Communications, Computer Science, or Public Administration.
